painting resin cast parts

Thank you for purchasing these resin parts. I hope you have a great experience building your project! Remember to properly prep for paint in order to get proper adhesion to the surface

1.Prep your parts, fill in any small holes or imperfections with spot putty or filler and get the surface smooth.  Use a scotchbrite pad, fine grit sandpaper or steel wool to lightly rough up the surface.

2. Clean the parts with soap and water and let dry fully.

3. Wear latex or rubber gloves to avoid contamination of the parts. Oils from your skin can cause the paint to not stick.

4. Use a good primer. Automotive primers that cover small scratches and pinholes will serve you best. Do two light coats. Allow enough time to dry in between coats and follow the directions on the product.

3. Use a good spray enamel or enamel model paints for best results. Do two coats

You can use several techniques for painting that will give your parts that "used" or "worn" look.

Layer your paints  Use different colors to show several color changes, a chipped paint effect can be used to expose the under color. This can be acheived by masking each layer as you paint or exposing the under layers by scuffing or sanding throught the top layer.

Rust effects You can use several products to give your props that old and rusted look.

Dirty You can use products like Fullers earth to give your prop that dirty "just pulled out of an old barn" type of look, clear coats with dust or sand thrown at it will also work. Use your imagination
